Role overview

As Group Payroll Manager, over 5 entities, you will ensure accurate and timely processing of monthly payrolls for salaried staff, including managing employment changes and benefits. You will oversee payroll data provision to external providers, handle tax filings, and resolve payroll queries while ensuring GDPR compliance. Additionally, you will manage monthly journals, reconciliations, and pension auto-enrolment. Collaborating with HR and Finance, you'll support audits and lead the payroll team, fostering strong controls, improving policies, and contributing to key group projects.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Payroll processing.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of monthly salaries, including employment changes and benefits, AOE.
  • Supporting with and reporting on the administration of pension contributions, auto-enrolment and communications.
  • Processing of commissions, bonuses, expenses and buy sell leave
  • Manage payroll data provision to external benefit providers and handle related tax filings.
  • Overseeing holiday, absence and sick pay and statutory sick pay calculations and deductions.
  • Ensure the team are supported with all Tax Year-End procedures are run including P60's, tax filing and reporting. Ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, including tax withholding and reporting.
  • Support and assist with payroll Audits
  • Prepare and generate timely payroll reports for management, finance, and accounting departments.
  • Continuously assess payroll processes and recommend improvements for efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
  • Resolve payroll disputes and queries, maintaining compliance with GDPR for sensitive data.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly journals, reconciliations, and pension auto-enrolment processes.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams and support audits by providing necessary payroll data.
  • Continuously review and improve payroll policies and provide support for related group projects.

Key requirements

  • Payroll certifications such as CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner).
  • Good communicator.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience managing payroll for multiple entities.
  • Experience in payroll systems ideally Cascade.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations in the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of pension opts out and enrolment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
