Senior Pensions Administrator - Propertey Transactions

To manage a portfolio of SSAS schemes with a focus on complex casework and commercial property transactions, ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and high service standards.

The role acts as a senior technical point of contact within the SSAS team, providing mentoring support, quality oversight, and expertise in property-related pension activity.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management

  • Administer a portfolio of SSAS schemes, including complex and high-value arrangements.
  • Act as primary contact for trustees, advisers, and professional third parties.
  • Ensure all scheme records are maintained accurately and in line with HMRC and scheme requirements.

Property Transactions

  • Manage end-to-end commercial property purchases and sales within SSAS.
  • Liaise with solicitors, lenders, valuers, and managing agents.
  • Review contracts, leases, rent schedules, and property reports.
  • Monitor rent collection, VAT registration, and option-to-tax processes.
  • Ensure compliance with connected party transaction rules and market value requirements.

Loanbacks & Complex Investments

  • Administer and monitor loanback arrangements in line with HMRC requirements.
  • Ensure security documentation and repayment schedules are compliant.
  • Process non-standard investments where applicable.

Regulatory & Technical Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with HMRC pension legislation and SSAS-specific rules.
  • Monitor scheme funding, annual returns, and reporting obligations.
  • Maintain robust audit trails and documentation standards.
  • Support internal audits and regulatory reviews.

Risk & Governance

  • Identify and escalate technical or regulatory risks.
  • Ensure investments meet scheme and legislative requirements.
  • Support trustees in understanding obligations and responsibilities.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide mentoring and technical support to junior administrators.
  • Assist with training delivery and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to process improvement and system development initiatives.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong technical knowledge of HMRC pension rules relating to SSAS.
  • Demonstrable experience managing commercial property transactions within pension schemes.
  • Experience with loanbacks and connected party transactions.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Progress towards or completion of PMI/CII qualifications.
  • Experience managing VAT-registered property within pensions.
  • 4+ years' experience in SSAS administration.
  • knowledge of trust law and trustee governance principles.
  • Experience contributing to technical guidance or internal best practice documents.
